What is your lateness policy?

PLEASE ARRIVE 15-20 MINUTES EARLY. If you are late this will cut into your throwing time. There are waivers to sign and once your session begins there are safety rules and techniques to go over. We will do our best to accommodate you but please do not be the axe-hole that slows down the fun because you’re late!

Walk-ins. How do they work?

We allow walk-ins but depending on how busy we are, they are not guaranteed. It is HIGHLY recommended to make a reservation. This is the only way we can guarantee throwing time.

For current availability, please check out each location’s event calendar. To do so, find the activity you’d like to book, select the day you want to reserve, and you will see the availability for the date selected. The only way to guarantee and reserve your axe-throwing experience is by booking online or over the phone beforehand.

While reservations are not required and you are welcome to come play games and grab a few drinks.

How much does this axe-throwing activity cost and do I have to pay up front?

Our starting rate is $30 per person plus tax for a 75-minute totally awesome experience! View our locations for more information.

Please note: this is per person, not per-spot. You may not swap out axe-throwers for different individuals throughout the duration of the booking. If you register, you are there to play! Some of our locations do allow spectators, people who are not throwing are not allowed in the pit area.

If you have a group that exceeds 12 guests, please contact Montana Nights directly at info@montananights.com for special accommodations and pricing. We would love to host your event!

Do I need a large group to throw?

Not at all. We will put you with other throwers in our social pit, which makes the night much more fun!

What else can we do besides axe-throwing?

Newington: We now have more than enough room at the bar! Grab another beverage, play billiards, or try your luck at arcade.

Orange: We’ve expanded! Now offering two-levels to relax, grab another beverage, play arcade games and pool tables.

Southington: At this time we are big enough to only accommodate our axe-throwing guests but our friends in the complex are ready to entertain you before or after your reservation! Some of our favorites are: Gamecraft Arcade, Witch Doctor Brewery, Escapism and Perkatory Roasters.

Do we tip our AxeMasters?

While not required, it is greatly appreciated! Our AxeMasters work for gratuities so if you feel they have met and exceeded your expectations please show them your appreciation via tips. They are always greatly appreciated and graciously accepted.

What is the difference between a “Private Pit” and a “Social Axe Throwing Pit”?

A private pit means you have a minimum of 6 people in your group and we cannot add anyone to your reservation. A social axe-throwing pit means you have less than 6 people in your group and, depending on availability, you may be throwing with other small groups in addition to yours.

Can we just get a range to ourselves?

Yes, if you book for a minimum of 6 people, you can have the range to yourselves. You do not need to have that many in your party, but 6 is the minimum required for a private range. Is your party larger than 12 people? Email us before you book so we can make sure you have the best experience possible.

Will someone teach me how to throw?

OF COURSE! Our experienced AxeMasters are with you the entire time. They will teach you how to throw, run different fun competitive games, maintain the safety of all individuals, and obviously provide an amazing axe throwing experience. Please note, all equipment and tables are sanitized between every party.

How to Throw an Axe 101

We’ve asked a few of our Montana Nights AxeMasters their secrets on throwing a perfect bullseye. Here are a few tricks of our trade.

“Square Up. Get a Grip.
Stay Relaxed.”

Start with the basics. Get Your Footwear and Square Up Your Stance!

We always start with the basics to get a perfect throw. Footwear is crucial… closed-toed shoes are a must! By focusing on your stance, you can align your body towards the target. Keep your eyes, hips, and feet pointed straight to the board, and exhale before you throw. Exhaling is key to resetting your body and removing tension.

Keep it relaxed… a beer between throws helps too.

Tip #2: Find a Grip That Works for You.

Our Axemasters are here to help you discover a grip that works best for you. Depending on your height, weight or throwing style you have options. We recommend starting with a two-handed approach to perfect sticking the axes before switching to a one-handed style. Consistency is key! Don’t get discouraged in the beginning, and remember tip #1 to exhale before you throw.

Practice Makes Perfect. Be sure to keep coming back to sharpen your skills!

Tip #3: What NOT To Do.

DO NOT “flick your wrist” when you throw. This will only create extra spin and prevent the axe from sticking.

DO NOT throw excessively hard. Overthrowing will often cause you to miss and no extra points are awarded for putting the axe through the wall.

DO NOT forget the basics. Squaring your stance, staying relaxed and perfecting your grip are the secrets to the perfect throw!

DO NOT forget that this is all about having fun. This is one of the most important tips for us at Montana Nights… where it’s always a great time.

There’s something for everyone.
